Some say that education is overrated. Some choose to “fake it til ya make it”. Well, we would like to tell you that that is not how it works in photography. There is sooooo much to learn and so many different ways to improve your photography it’s just mind-boggling! We have such a passion for photography that educating ourselves seems more like an exciting adventure than work, but it definitely takes time, diligence…and money. But it’s totally worth it. Every time we learn new tricks or new techniques we get so anxious to try them out and apply them to our sessions! There are so many “me too” photography businesses out there…what’s funny is that I thought we were one of them when we started. I read over and over on experienced photographers’ feeds that the “me too” crowd was an insult to their art, etc., and I wondered where we fit into that equation. Now, I know that the difference lies in, first of all, whether a photographer is a naturally talented artist with an eye for balance, design, color and artistic expression, but secondly and almost equally importantly, whether a photographer continues to educate themselves, learn and grow! You MUST continually invest in education as a photographer because there is ALWAYS more!! And we LOVE that! We will be the first to admit that we are not perfect photographers, but we learn from our shortcomings and improve as we move forward…and are able to deliver increasingly consistent and pleasing results! We are so thankful for the educators that are willing to share their most valuable tips and strategies!
That said, as we grow and establish more prominence in the (specifically wedding and engagement) photography business, we plan to eventually expand our business to include and educational side. We absolutely love the idea of empowering others to have such a rewarding experience with such an exciting vocation and have been so inspired by the likes of Katelyn James and Amy & Jordan because of their willingness to share from an “abundance” mindset. What this means is choosing not to view other photographers as competition that cannot know your secrets or have your market…that kind of thinking comes from a scarcity mindset and is just an unsuccessful business structure. This is so neat because it directly relates to our relationship with Christ and our belief in His ability to provide every need…in fact, everything we currently have is because of His goodness!! So, we are very excited to eventually get to the place where we have something to share with other photographers who started out just like we did! First, we need more of YOUR help getting images in our galleries, so contact us! And don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!!!
