I remember loving snow days as a kid growing up. No school; mom’s homemade hot chocolate cooking on the stove; getting to play outside for hours in the snow with my sibilings, building snowmen (and ladies) and igloos; sledding down the biggest hills we could find and snowball fights…but as I got older I started liking the snow, and cold weather in general, less and less. I always loved the look of the snow covering the ground on the first day but I found myself not being interested in going outside to play in the snow anymore. I feel like this ends up being the case with a lot of situations in life. We are so used to being on the go and not taking the time to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. So many people and couples get so caught up in the world and what the world views as fun, romantic, and how the world thinks we should spend quality time with one another and what should take up our time and make up our life. We get to the point of just constantly having to be doing something or going somewhere to feel satisfied on our times off.
I am so thankful that God has released Shayne and I from living in that mindset. I have never been more content with just being home with my family and taking a break from the busyness that the world brings. I need to make sure that I am also constantly doing the same thing when it comes to spending time with God…it is easy to get caught up with what is “convenient Christianity”. So much of the Christian world has their relationship with God on the same priority list as the rest of their lives and it ends up suffering the same fate of becoming rushed and eventually even ignored. It is so important to just be still…to take time out to let God speak to us and to just enjoy being in His presence. It is the simplicity of Christ that makes Him so contrary to the world.
(Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha”, the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”)
As followers of Christ, we are called out of the world to be a light. It is our responsibility to see the beauty of life and to enjoy it’s simplicity…and then to share that!
(Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.)
I am so thankful for God blessing us with the most perfect promise (our son). Rhitten is constantly giving me a new perspective on the simplicity of life. His excitement for the new seasons, for the big and the little things is so contagious. Because of him I was reminded of the excitement of the snow today and I am so excited to share the adventure with him!
I hope you enjoy these photos of our snow day! Share with us how you enjoy your snow days!
(Proverbs 25:13 Like the cold of snow in time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.)
